Asbestos Removal in Credit River

Testing is where we begin on Credit River jobs, whether you are remodeling, putting on new siding or clearing a house from the lot. Materials the lab confirms come out under the state notice, and your other trades move in after.

Over 4 in every 10 homes here are older than 1980. No decade built more of them than the 1970s, which added over a quarter of today’s houses.

Asbestos removal services

Testing first

Sampling comes before anything is cut. We bring in an MDH-certified inspector, and our asbestos testing page explains the difference between sampling for one project and surveying a house before a teardown.

Textured ceilings

MDH names ceiling texture as a material to test. A positive result means the job is done under popcorn ceiling removal, room by room.

Floors

Flooring is tested layer by layer, since an older tile can be hidden beneath carpet or a newer vinyl. Our floor tile and sheet vinyl removal service then takes up any layer the lab flags.

Walls

Planning to move or remove a wall? The drywall board and its taping mud can both be tested, and positive material comes out under drywall and joint compound removal before your carpenter starts.

Credit River homes

Houses are the whole housing stock in Credit River. Each home in the count is a one-unit home, and renters occupy only a small share. More than a quarter were built during the 1970s, roughly 1 in 15 goes back to 1939 or earlier, and the median year built is 1988.

Owner-occupied houses

With almost all Credit River homes lived in by their owners, one state rule applies to many readers. Minnesota law excuses an owner-occupant of a single-family house from the license and the permit fee for asbestos work done in that house. Landlords get no such pass, and MDH’s strong advice is to hire a licensed contractor either way.

Houses from the 1970s

Before you cut or scrape in a house of that age, have the ceiling texture, the floor tile and its mastic, the wallboard and the joint compound sampled. A clean lab result applies only to the material that was tested.

Permits in Credit River

Credit River’s building permits page cites the state rule that requires a permit to demolish a building, alongside permits for remodels and basement finishes. The page says nothing about asbestos, so the state rules apply on their own.

Burning old buildings

Burning a structure on purpose is illegal in Minnesota. The one exception is legitimate firefighter training, and only after the pre-demolition steps, asbestos survey and abatement included.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a licensed contractor for a small amount?

Minnesota measures it three ways, by length on pipes, by area on other parts and, when neither works, by volume. A home job calls for a licensed contractor with more than 10 linear feet of friable asbestos on pipes or more than 6 square feet of it elsewhere. When length and area can’t be taken, the line is more than 1 cubic foot of friable material. Anything smaller falls outside MDH regulation, which MDH says is not the same as being safe.

How soon can removal start?

The earliest start is five calendar days after MDH receives the licensed contractor’s notice. Homeowners cannot file that notice themselves.

Does a garage or outbuilding need an inspection before it comes down?

MPCA’s demolition wording covers all structures, so plan an inspection by an MDH-certified inspector before an old garage, barn or shed is torn down. Any asbestos found must be out at least two days before demolition.

Where does the waste go?

Our crew takes it with them. Before anything leaves your property it is wetted and sealed in labeled containers, and each load travels to an asbestos-accepting landfill with its own manifest.

Farmington wants asbestos papers handed in before a house comes down, and asbestos removal in Farmington walks through that handout. Ceilings, floors, walls and siding are all on the home page.
