Kitchen and bath remodels

Before a remodel opens walls or a crew takes a house down, the asbestos has to go. State rules say it comes out first, whether the building is a shop or a house and whether it is being remodeled or torn down. We clear the rooms in your plans so the other trades start on clean material.
We handle abatement for kitchens, baths, basements and whole-house teardowns in Lakeville, Credit River and Farmington.

Before framing and drywall go up, we deal with positive flooring, mastic and any wrapped ducts or pipes the new layout will cover or cut.
Taking down a whole house starts with a complete inspection by an MDH-certified inspector. Removal has to be finished at least two days before demolition. Should any asbestos remain in the part coming down, every bit of that debris becomes asbestos waste.
Commercial buildings and apartment buildings of five or more units are among those MPCA regulates, and for them it expects notice ten working days ahead of disturbing regulated asbestos. Houses with four or fewer units fall outside it except in three cases. One is a house converted from a covered use, another is a group of houses razed by one owner, and the last is a house cleared for urban renewal, highway or commercial development.
Lakeville requires a permit to demolish a building, and applications go in online. Its building inspections page lists no asbestos steps, so the state rules set the order: inspection, abatement, then demolition.
In Farmington, the residential demolition handout asks for asbestos testing and abatement documents to reach the building official before demolition. The city may also hold an application for up to ten business days to look at a building’s historic value.
Start with more than one bid, and ask each company for a written work plan, as MDH suggests. Before choosing, look up the company’s state license, see the certificates its supervisor and workers hold, and confirm an MDH project permit covers your job. When the crew leaves, hold on to the waste manifests and the air-sampling lab report.
